Let’s publish a collective book, written and illustrated by people who have experienced the menstrual cycle!

While the book is rooted in the lived experience of having a cycle, your contribution does not need to be “about periods.” All topics are welcome as long as they come from the heart.

Here are some ideas to inspire you

(the list is not exhaustive, just a glimpse of the diversity of themes)

A few themes linked to menstrual justice…

  • Justice, inequality, social expectations
  • Injunctions to beauty, to hide or perform femininity
  • Navigating / welcoming emotions
  • Community, care, solidarity
  • Resistance, activism
  • Gender, relationships, self-identity
  • The body itself: acceptance, conflict, pride, discovery
  • Spiritualities
  • Nature, ecosystems
  • etc.

Why this book?

Two main reasons:

  1. One key goal of our work is to give space, platform, and voice to people who’ve experienced the menstrual cycle, to change the narrative around it, to bring multiperspectivity. A book is a powerful way to make these voices resonate.
  2. At YesWeBleed, all of our events are free because we believe that people should not have to pay for their menstrual health.
But to keep our work alive, we also need sustainable ways to fund our activities. That’s why:
  •   All revenues from the book will directly support YesWeBleed e.V.
  •   We are also exploring the possibility of sharing a percentage with an association supporting women in Palestine, Congo, Sudan, or Yemen.

By contributing your art, you’re helping us build something lasting, meaningful, and supportive for the whole community.

How you can contribute ?

This book will celebrate our voices, our creativity, and our lived experiences, in all their diversity.
Here are some ideas of what it could bring together (but the list is open, surprise us!):

  • Creative writing & poetry
  • Drawings, paintings, photography, comics, cartoons
  • Graphics, collages, visual experiments
  • Testimonies & personal reflections
  • Moments and key insights from our workshops (when they naturally arise)
  • Small theatre acts or scripts
  • Processes (e.g. creative exercises, guided meditations)
  • Mini card games with questions (to cut out)
  • Blank pages with a drawing or writing exercise for future readers
  • Love letters to the future readers
  • Meal recipes connected to your cycle, your culture, your memories, or simply comfort

➡️ The only limit is our imagination. If it can be printed in a book, it’s welcome.

Practical notes:

  •   You can write in your own language, but please also provide an English translation.

·   All pieces should be sent in Word or PDF format to yeswebleed@gmail.com

No need to be an expert, your life experience is the expertise

You don’t need to be a professional artist or writer. Contributions will be included as long as they respect our community values and guidelines.

Think of this as gifting your art to the collective, every page tells part of our shared story.

This book models exactly the message we spread during our events:

We are not here to perform, prove talent, or meet any expectations.

Existing is enough and sharing that existence through creativity is valued.

What matters is that it comes from the heart.

Timeline & Process

We’ll accept contributions until January 31st, 2026.

Contributions can be made through three main streams:

1. Collective Creation Events

You’d love to participate but can’t create at home? You’d prefer to have a collective moment to see what might emerge together? Or even build a shared piece as a group? We’ll have 3 group sessions for that!

3 sessions: October, November, January (exact dates TBA)

Facilitated by volunteers from the YWB community

Deadline for submission: End of January 2026

2. Open Call for Art & Creative Pieces 🎨

Submit your individual creations to yeswebleed@gmail.com

All contributions welcome

Deadline: End of January 2026

3. Testimonies Collection 🗣️

For those who would like to share their personal story linked to the menstrual cycle — such as:

  • Experiencing the cycle day-to-day
  • Rituals connected to menstruation
  • Living with menstrual disease
  • Pregnancy, abortion, miscarriage
  • Adapting life to the cycle, and beyond

Stories can be submitted in writing, or recorded as video/audio (we will transcribe).

Deadline: End of January 2026

GOAL: Publication May 2026
